Creating a workplace where all people thrive

Feruary 2023 Newsletter

We've been focusing on the topic of thriving in the workplace. We've been asking ourselves, "Who is thriving? Who is just surviving? And how can we create workplaces where everyone is thriving?" It's a topic close to our hearts because we believe that every individual deserves to feel fulfilled and supported in their work.

We've been exploring different tools and knowledge that can help us create thriving workplaces, and we've been blown away by the responses from our team and our clients. We know that the workplace well-being crisis is real, and we're committed to doing our part to address it.

Reflections on Black History Month

As a global company with its headquarters in the US, we embraced the spirit of Black History Month this February by actively exploring how culture, heritage, and identity intersect with the creation of thriving workplaces. Our discussions centered around the remarkable contributions of Black leaders in learning and development, and how their achievements are being celebrated and amplified throughout the industry.

We also discussed how the sobering statistics about the well-being of Black employees cannot be ignored. According to a report by Gallup, one in four black employees reports recent discrimination at work. This is compounded by the fact that only 42% of managers strongly agree that they are prepared to have discussions about race with their teams, leaving those who experience discrimination feeling even more isolated.

Furthermore, McKinsey reports that less than 5% of senior leadership roles in US companies are held by Black individuals. It's clear that to create a truly equitable and thriving workplace, we must actively work to address these disparities and provide support and resources for underrepresented groups.

Measuring Thriving Workplace Cultures

As the US Surgeon General recently emphasized, measuring and improving worker well-being should be a top priority for any organization that wants to create sustainable, healthy workplace structures. That's why we're excited to launch our THRIVE Index, a tool that measures six key dimensions of well-being across your team, department, or organization. We’re currently offering the Index for free, including a half day of consulting to help you put your results into action. We believe that thriving employees make for a thriving business, and we're committed to helping you achieve both.

Becoming a Catalyst for Change

Our Thriving in the Workplace eBook has been flying off the eShelf this month as more and more people seek to understand the root causes of the major job exodus across industries. We delve into the heart of the matter, providing you with the knowledge of the skills necessary to create a workplace that fosters employee well-being and retention.

The 4-Day Week

Are you tired of the traditional 5-day workweek? Well, you're not alone. A recent study by Oxford University found that a 4-day workweek can significantly improve employee well-being. In the study, more than 90 companies participated, and while profit trends had no immediate appreciable effect, companies reported startling results in terms of improved well-being. In fact, many of the companies are sticking with the 4-day workweek. Could this be the future of work? It's an exciting possibility, but it's important to note that culture transformations like these require a transformative learning journey where employees can unite on meaning, motivation, and momentum.
